As we look back on the year, it is natural to remember our achievements, challenges, and personal milestones. But beyond everything we accomplished, there are people whose presence made the journey a little easier.
Some offered advice when we were uncertain. Others gave us opportunities, encouraged us when things were difficult, listened when we needed to talk, or simply showed up when it mattered.
Not every act of support was grand or public. Sometimes, it was a phone call, a thoughtful message, a recommendation, a helping hand, or someone who made time for us despite their own responsibilities.
Behind many personal achievements are people whose contributions may never appear in the final story.
As the year comes to an end, it is worth asking ourselves: Have we appreciated the people who stood by us?
We can become so focused on our next goals that we forget to acknowledge those who helped us along the way. We may remember what we received but overlook the kindness, patience, and sacrifices that made a difference.
This is also an opportunity to reflect on the kind of support we offer others. Are we available only when it is convenient? Do we celebrate other people's progress? Can people count on us when they need encouragement or assistance?
Strong families and communities are built through mutual care. Support should not always be about what we receive; it should also be about what we are willing to give.
Before the year ends, take a moment to appreciate someone who made a difference in your life. A sincere thank-you, a personal message, or a simple acknowledgement can mean more than you realise.
And if someone has been there for you throughout the year, do not assume they already know how much their support means.
Sometimes, one of the best ways to end a year is to let people know they mattered in it.
